Reading Christopher Reed Johnson’s emerging introductory essay to J. Edward Cornelius’ Book of Archai has been helping me clarify some big existential answers about Thelema.
Â
When I wrote The Snake Who Made Gods of Our Race, I intended to explain to myself why those of us chosen to be Thelemites are here. Broadly speaking, where did we come from and what is our cosmic mission?
Â
I got some good traction, but ran aground in approaching our ancient roots. I just stopped and published what I had, which was a full-length book in any case.
Â
Just at that moment, Christopher *spontaneously* wrote me a long and astonishing email explaining *exactly* the answer I was looking for but had been unable to reach on my own. But that’s a story for another day–another book of his to come out later.
Â
Right now, Chris is illuminating the part of our cosmic mission most relevant to Jerry’s lifelong work.
To catch up those new to The Book of Archai, it is a book of illustrations and diagrams that Jerry created, without much explanation, in 1969-1970. Christopher is drawing on Jerry’s early diaries, independent research, and knowledge of where Jerry eventually goes with it to write an essay that will help the reader understand those intriguing pictures–and themselves.
Â
Cornelius Publications expects to release this book later this Spring.Â
