Thoth is the God of both writing and magick, almost as if writing is inherently magickal. Aleister Crowley understood clearly that the autobiography, while based on fact, tells of a fictional life. And yet he insisted that a competent magician keep a diary.

We in the A.’.A.’. believe so strongly in this process that we require a Thisharbian autobiography as part of the application process. Why?

If our identities and the macrocosmic events of our lives are essentially illusory, why write about them?

Write to Liberate Energy to the Divine Will

Jerry Cornelius used to tell me that, like the fourfold Sun (Resh), thoughts must be born on earth, live a life, and die. In other words, they must be written to release the energy bound up in them, allow it to affect the whole, and return it to the All-Tao.

By that logic, we create the justified thought structure of the autobiography to release our lifetime to the Angel. It’s the process of writing that works the magick.

So long as emotions and thoughts rattle around in us without expression they keep us obsessed with our egoic self to the detriment of our divine Self. In other words, they block and Restrict our portion of God, keeping us enslaved on Malkuth.
“And in that heart of hearts was no more I,
No more the heart; but sobbing through the sky,
Came trembling the more awful beat, the blast
Of a million trumpets blazoning the past,
Heralding the to-be, and on their wings
Whirred incommunicable things.”
