DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW
There’s been this meme going around saying “Opposing racism and sexism is a Thelemic value.” No. This pop affirmation is dangerously false.
Racism and sexism both turn my stomach. So I get it: people who fear the Law of Thelema — apparently including many of its supposed leaders, to my utter disgust — want a shortcut to certain behavior. Crowley is rolling over in his grave right about now.
May I suggest admitting you’re not a Thelemite and embracing one of the many fine religions that legitimately tell you how to behave? That way you don’t have to think for yourself and find your own law, as Thelema requires.
Thelema–true Freedom–requires the freedom to chart one’s own course, even to make mistakes, as you or I might judge it. Any compulsion for or against a particular belief, no matter how odious it seems to no matter how many, violates the spirit of divine self-governance.
Granted, Thelema prohibits actually interfering with the actions of another Star from any cause, including racism or sexism. But, yes, you have the Divine Right to be a racist or sexist.
May the One True Will save us from the darkness that prevails in supposedly Thelemic community.
